Late: Guilty Gear 2: Overture not a figher?
Posted by godboko71 at 22:37:58 CST
Sorry for being oh about 10 days late on this BUT Guilty Gear 2: Overture has been announced and is sadly not going to be a fighting title but rather real-time strategy and 3D fighting game. Kind of an odd mix.
Thanks Seán of the forum & 1 Up

Rare NOT working on KI3
Posted by White_Pointer at 23:59:53 CST
Rare have never really had much to say about the existance of a possible 3rd installment to their Killer Instinct series, but regardless, many fans of the series assumed that some secret team down in the basement of the Rare offices somewhere have been working on the title. This hope though has been blown away by the most recent edition of Rare Scribes, where a fan asks if a new KI game (as well as a new Jet Force Gemini game, a new Mr. Pants game and an RPG game) is indeed on the horizon. The reply isn't good news to KI fans:
"Purely out of contractual obligation, no, we're not working on KI3, no, we don't have a secret team in the basement finishing off JFG2, no, we're not brainstorming an exciting sequel to It's Mr. Pants and traditionally we're not big players in the RPG market either." So...it's been cleared up...at least for now, we won't be seeing a new KI3 game. Don't give up hope though KI fans...just because they are not working on it right now, doesn't mean they won't in the future.

E3: Super Smash Bros Brawl dated
Posted by White_Pointer at 23:00:49 CST
Nintendo has been rather quiet about the upcoming release of Super Smash Bros Brawl, with no new information released about the game in quite some time. This has changed now that E3 has rolled around though and Nintendo have finally set a solid release date. The good news is, it'll be hitting shelves in the US just in time for Christmas this year on December 3rd.
No word yet on a PAL release date but we hope it will also still make a release in 2007...on average Wii games have taken about a month to get from NTSC to PAL so far so here's hoping European and Australian gamers will also get to enjoy the title by the end of the year.

Posted by godboko71 at 18:45:45 CST
Kung Fu Hustle is set to be released in Q4 of 2007 for the PC.
Based on the hit Stephen Chow film, Kung Fu Hustle combines the best elements of classic fighting games from the past and adds compelling character designs, new technology and trademark humor from the movie for a new generation of gamers.

VF5 coming to 360
Posted by White_Pointer at 02:06:01 CST
Sega's Virtua Fighter 5 hit the Playstation 3 some months ago, but if you recall, at the time we reported that the series was no longer staying exclusive to one console as Sega had plans to bring the latest installment to the Xbox 360 as well.
The good news is, Sega aren't just simply making a port of the PS3 original. Morover, they are addressing concerns reviewers expressed in the PS3 version by including more game modes and online play - a feature that the PS3 version lacked. On top of the online mode players will actually be able to compete online for prizes and virtual money. The single player Quest and Dojo modes will also feature tweaks and improvements with more character customisation options and leaderboards.
The 360 version of VF5 is due out 3rd quarter this year.

DOA coming to PC
Posted by White_Pointer at 22:33:15 CST
You read that correctly. The Dead or Alive series of games have always only been found on home consoles with the exception of the arcade, but that's about to change as Tecmo have confirmed that Dead or Alive Online, which was released late in the Xbox's lifetime, will be coming to the PC.
While it was Tecmo's internal development studio Team Ninja that developed the original Xbox version, another of Tecmo's internal studios Lievo Studio - who apparently specialise in online material - will be porting the game to PC.
The game will first be released to China, Hong Kong, and Macao before the Beijing Olympics kick off in August next year. Everyone else will get their chance at a later date yet to be announced.

UMK3 coming to the DS
Posted by White_Pointer at 22:44:15 CST
Midway have recently announced that they are working with Nintendo in bringing 5 titles to Nintendo systems before the end of the year. One of these will be Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for the DS, which will mark the first time the series has appeared on the system.
This won't just be a straight port of the arcade original however, as Midway are throwing in extra goodness. Puzzle kombat that appeared in MK: Deception will be making a return as an extra mini-game, the game will be fully playable online through Wi-Fi, and will also feature record keeping capabilities.
It's not known at this point whether the game will take advantage of the touch screen at all.
The title is currently slated for a November release.

Hori supplies Wii with arcade stick
Posted by White_Pointer at 22:50:09 CST
If you're the type that has believed that for one reason or another fighting games wouldn't work on the Wii (despite the fact we've had a number released), then this may change your mind.
Video game peripheral manufacturer Hori is releasing a new arcade stick for the Wii that is specifically designed for fighting games.
The stick is set to go on sale in Japan in August and will retail for $52.90 US. Check out play-asia for more info.
