Well.. Some people may be right about what there saying, but don't forget that in Tekken 1 throughout Yoshimitsu's story, it said that he desguised himself as kunimitsu and entered the tournament as a decoy, so that the real kunimitsu (the one that you saw in tekken 2, ttt) could go in and steal the funds of the tournament. This explains why the tekken kunimitsu from tekken 1 looks more like a dude. Compare Yoshimitsu and Kunimitsu from tekken1 and they look almost exactly alike.
Like I said, he purposely entered the King of Iron Fist Tournament 1 as a decoy, and sent out the real kunimitsu to steal the funds of the tournament. And of course the real Kunimitsu was never shown. Her first appearance was in Tekken 2. This is why a lot of people tend to get confused.
And of course Yoshimitsu purposely lost to the tournament, just for Kunimitsu to do her job at the end.
In tekken 2 the (the real Kunimitsu's first appearance) She was ordered by Yoshimitsu to go and steal the funds of the tournament as they did previously, so that they could give it to the poor (the Manji clans job), but instead of course she decided to steal for herself this time and you know how the rest of the story goes.
But that's it there, and that's why she sounds like the way she sounds regardless of whether Namo reused the voices or not. Yes.. the Kunimitsu from Tekken1 was a guy, but simply Yoshimitsu in desguised, that's why that Kunimitsu is more manly, than the real one which is the girl wasn't shown really, and as you can see if it would've been the real kunimitsu her mask wouldn't be like Yoshi's, it would be more of that cool cat mask that she wears.
